Over the past month, Farmers for Tax Fairness has continued its efforts to convince Congress that it should not change cash accounting rules for U.S. agriculture.

Expanding FTF Team

We’re pleased to announce that we have engaged two additional consulting firms to help with outreach to the agricultural community around the United States.

First, from the Great Plains, the Kansas-based law firm Devine and Donley has joined our team. Devine and Donley has a long track record of working with agricultural producers around the United States on critical policy issue. Headed by Allie Devine, former Secretary of Agriculture for the State of Kansas, Devine and Donley brings significant subject matter expertise and national relationships to the FTF team.

Second, from the Upper Midwest, the Michigan-based firm Byrum and Fisk Advocacy Communications also joined our team. Byrum and Fisk is the premier communications firm serving the agriculture industry in Michigan with clients that include the Agricultural Leaders of Michigan, the Michigan Agri-Business Association and the Michigan Corn Growers Association. Byrum and Fisk’s award winning, nationally recognized team brings a wealth of public relations, media and political experience to the table for the FTF effort.

Outreach

From our outreach with members of Congress over the past month, we’re more concerned than ever about the cash accounting changes being considered by the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee and the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.

The Senate Finance Committee is accepting comments on the proposed changes until January 17, 2014.  Farmers for Tax Fairness believes it’s critical that affected agricultural producers make sure their voices are heard in this discussion so that we have the option to continue to use the cash method of accounting.

The good news is that many farmers and agricultural producers around the country are adding their voices to this chorus. Earlier this month, the tax committees for the Kansas Livestock Association and the Texas Cattle Feeders Association both passed resolutions opposing the proposed changes to cash accounting rules. Doug Claussen from K·Coe Isom was invited by the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association to present on the cash accounting topic with NCA already on record as supporting the current cash accounting rules.

Working together, we can make sure that our voices are heard and that Congress does not adopt these damaging proposals.

Please keep spreading the word to affected producers!
